Direct support professionals (DSPs) are often considered generalists who have to be able to provide many different types and levels of support in many different settings across a wide range of activities throughout the lifespan of people with disabilities. Supporting DSPs in their professional development by creating career pathways is an important strategy for keeping great DSPs. Our Professionalizing DPSs webinar describes the basic steps in building a career pathway (ladder) or credentialing program in an organization. Examples of different career ladders and credentialing programs currently available for DSPs are presented.
